We love seeing retailers stock natural pieces like the Panama Placemat. They instantly bring a warm, earthy feel to dining settings and fit into so many themes. This one’s got that classic braided pattern in a relaxed circle, using real corn husk and seagrass fibres. And the frayed edge just makes it stand out - stylish but still very casual, which is why we think this style is selling well right now.
These are all made by hand, which is nice because every single one is unique in its own way. You might notice a bit of variation in colour, weave or even shape - sometimes slightly uneven braiding or tones, but that’s the appeal of these kinds of placemats. Customers who buy anything natural like this tend to expect those differences as a sign of authenticity.
At 30cm across, the size works for big dinner plates as well as smaller tapas settings (which honestly isn’t something all round placemats can do). The soft neutral goes with all colours and can be used under any style of crockery - plain white ceramics, glass, bold patterned bowls… they’re versatile like that. These feel fantastic to touch and display anywhere in a home or office - dining tables for daily meals, sideboards stacked on top of each other, even coffee tables with candles or vases on top.
The simple design lends itself to rustic farmhouse styles as much as it does coastal and bohemian interiors. We’ve heard from stores with all kinds of customers who love stocking pieces like these placemats because they’re so easy to suggest as beautiful gifts, too.
