Candlesticks And Lamps

The poignant flame of a candle lights up a room with its soft glow. Candles may not be our main source of light during the evening but they are still popular the world over as tasteful pieces of home décor. The versatility of candles lends itself to every room in the home or place of business. They are a compact, portable and useful type of homeware that can be placed on nearly any flat surface. But for every candle in the house one needs a candlestick to keep wax from dripping everywhere. Candlesticks and candle holders are a type of wholesale lamp for the purposes of this brief summarization. There are many types of candlesticks available from La Vida including tapered candlesticks, votive holders, lanterns, wall candle holders and hurricane lamps.

Tapered Candlesticks

Tapered candlesticks have a classic appearance that is difficult to match. The tall slender tapered candlestick is also known as a candelabrum when it has multiple tiers. These beauties have been modified over the centuries with new materials, styles and colours. But the same basic design of a curvaceous post applies. One expects to see tapered candlesticks gracing the centrepiece of a long banquette table or lined up on a huge fireplace mantle. In other instances they might be attached to a broad base with a small handle so that they can be carried down a long hall into the bed chamber.

Votive Holders

Votive candles or tea lights are resplendent in their singular twinkle. But it is when grouped together en masse that they appear to be truly breathtaking. Votive candle are very small and so their candlesticks come in the largest variety of shapes. Small votive holders made of translucent glass catch and reflect the light through all types of prisms. Ceramic candle holders are opaque but they can be painted with many different colours and motifs. There are even tall votive holders that resemble tapered candlesticks except that they are specifically designed to hold a single votive candle.

Lanterns

Lanterns are usually an enclosed container that contains a single light source. They are an old-fashioned version of the flashlight. When lit, lanterns give off a mystical illumination perfect for evening events. Lanterns have unique designs in different cultures. This has led to a wide variety of such lamps available on the market today. The rectangular lantern with little glass windows is a charming garden lantern that also has a place indoors. Chinese lanterns are spherical with opaque windows bound by wires or bars. They look good hanging on s-hooks but can also be placed strategically on a flat surface.

Hurricane Lamps

Hurricane lamps are a type of candle stick that more closely resembles a large drinking glass. They are an open container with tall sides made of translucent glass. Some hurricane lamps may sit on a base or have sloped sides but they all follow this basic pattern. The idea of a hurricane lamp is that the enclosed space shields the flame of a lit candle from being blown out by the wind. They are a traditional look that appears elegant and refined both indoors and out. Hurricane lamps can be incorporated into a centre piece for a fine meal or lined up in a row on a shelf, ledge, mantle or side table for extra oomph.

Other Candlesticks

The nature of a candlestick being an object which holds a candle can be incorporated into holders that are more difficult to categorise. Unusual candlesticks catch the eye and stay in the mind. Wall candle holders are an impressive means of filling up blank wall space that also contributes to the lighting in a room. Candle cages might resemble a bird cage in which a flame burns brightly. But there are other candle cages which mimic the intricacy of flowering vines in metal growth. A simple dish can hold a candle up well and this is particularly true for unusually shaped bowls of leaves or flowers.
