Outdoor Vs Indoor Planters

For your gardening to be a success, you need to select the best wholesale pots and planters for your plants. Use the following pointers to decide the best wholesale pots and planters for your plant :

a. The no. of plants species you can grow outdoor is limited due to climate changes whereas an indoor environment is suitable as its climate is a controlled one. Its soil doesn’t get frozen, and the environment can be manipulated by just adjusting the thermostat and humidifier.

b. The space available with an indoor planter does not allow the plant to grow to its full potential. Shifting to an outdoor planter in such a case can do wonders for your plant. Also, they do not hamper the living space and the plant does not face any root issues as is the case with indoor planters.

The Traits of A Good Pot!

  1. Always select wholesale pots and planters with a good drainage system. The drainage holes allow excess water to run out and it promotes better air circulation. Also, keep a tray beneath it so your floor doesn’t become wet. You can go for pots without drainage holes, but you’ll need to carefully water the plants and not drown them. Also, use small rocks and potting soil for proper drainage.
  2. The height of wholesale pots and planters is also an important factor. The larger the pot will be, the lesser you’ll need to water your plants. Also, a larger container doesn’t mean you can stuff it with lots of plants. The overcrowding of plants can lead to stunted growth of plants both above and below the soil. The no. of plants according to pot size may vary but below are the most recommended:

    1. 3 to 4 plants in 10 to 12 inches pot
    2. 5 to 7 plants in 14 to 16 inches pot
    3. 6 to 9 plants in 16 to 20 inches pot

Types of Pots

There are five types of pots which are most popular:

1. Terracotta Planters

Terracotta translates to baked earth. You might have come across these in markets as a classic red-orange colour pot. These have a heavy build and can be stable even in windy weather. But this also acts as a disadvantage as large terracotta pots cannot be transported easily. Terracotta baked in high temperatures last longer, are more resistant to scratches and rarely generate clay dust. In winter, they must be kept inside the house or else they will chip and crack.

2. Wooden Planters

Wooden planters are a good choice if want a budget-friendly yet good quality pot. They are made of different materials such as hardwood, cedar, pressure-treated wood, etc. They efficiently circulate water and air and require frequent watering. Unlike terracotta, they are lightweight, easy to relocate, and don’t absorb excess heat, protecting the roots during summers. But they take a hit in resistance to harsh climate and can easily get spoilt or rot due to heat, moisture or frost. They require proper maintenance like painting and draining, however, a lining of plastic or galvanized metal can extend its life.

3. Plastic Pots

Unlike terracotta and wooden planters, plastic pots are durable and resistant to the harsh climate, hence, less likely to break, chip or crack in winters. They are extremely lightweight and budget-friendly so it’s easier to relocate or exchange them if there is any damage. But it also has one disadvantage of an improper drainage system and inefficient air circulation as they are not very permeable, but this can be overcome by creating holes for proper drainage.

4. Ceramic Pots

These indoor wholesale pots and planters are one of the most preferred for indoor planting, are made of clay and kiln-baked and come with a glossy finish. They are permeable, hence, efficiently circulate air and water for the roots. They have a heavy build, can withstand windy days even though if a large verdure is planted. They easily break, chip or crack and are difficult to drill for drainage as made of clay.
